Abstract
In a multicenter trial, Mediterranean diets supplemented with extra-virgin olive oil or nuts reduced the rate of major cardiovascular events compared with a control diet among high-risk persons.
Key findings
Both Mediterranean arms lowered the composite of myocardial infarction, stroke, or cardiovascular death versus control after protocol corrections.
Methodology
Multicenter randomized trial with reanalyzed intention-to-treat estimates after identified randomization irregularities.

Editorial rating ★ 4.6

Use the 2018 paper, not the retracted one. Food pattern still wins.
